Violets | I insisted on using it for a while, but my husband has a thing about it, and started buying "eco friendly" dish soap. My son has been helping me do the dishes, and since I was letting him know how important it is to be mindful of what we put down our drains (not to mention what we put on our hands, breathe in, etc.), I figured we could do the dishes with baking soda and vinegar. It was fun for him, and I think that it cleans the dishes just fine (sometimes better, imo). Anyone else? |
Aries Eagle | That's very wise and environmentally friendly, I read you can also use baking soda alone to wash dishes. I know in my home they use vinegar to wash vegetables and fruits instead of soap. |

I personally believe that it works just fine (most of the time, anyway). Of course it would be nicer if it offered more suds, but I'm considering soap nuts. I'll probably wash/condition my hair with vinegar tonight. Now that I've just let my white streaks grow out in all their glory (haha), I don't need to worry myself about stripping the nasty chemical color from my hair. It's not always easy to live chemical-free (I would say that it's virtually impossible, if not entirely impossible), but it's probably better if I go back to giving it my best shot. (And I just assume that even products that tout themselves as eco-friendly are probably not, when you get down to it.) |
Ami Anne | I use Miracle 2 products. They have a green soap I use for most everything even laundry ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. It is Free, of course. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Stawr | cool about the baking soda, but the vinegar...not a biggest fan of the smell. I hear baking soda and vinegar are good for oily hair too. But when I'm all clean, I wanna smell like flowers, fruit, and desserts. (like most lotions, potions and soaps) I could handle the baking soda though. How do you guys deal with the scent of vinegar? Do you guys mind the smell, or is it totally worth it? |
Ellynlvx | I was wondering that. Not to mention that acid and base don't always mix. I do have a German Hair Tonic with Apple Cider Vinegar as an ingredient, and the smell is masked in that, and baking soda does neutralize odors. Never used it, though. |
Stawr | Oh good! I am intrigued by that German product. |
Ellynlvx | http://www.botanicchoice.com/Beauty-Care/Hair-Care/German-Hair-Tonic-6-oz.axd I bought it because it had an Herb I looked everywhere for, and only found there. It worked very well. It was from one of those Nutrition Chains though. They do send you all sorts of ads, if you have to give your e-mail. My Grandmother used to order from them. Jaborandi Root was the Herb. |
Stawr | and it is really on sale right now! |
Ellynlvx | Ach, they always have a *sale* That is what I paid for them, though. It is a good product. They really can be a bit of a pest, though. |
Violets | ^ Hahaha. You guys are cracking me up. Well, about the smell... Meh. In the shower it sort of bugs me when I wash my hair with it (I don't use baking soda on my hair or body anymore...it works okay occasionally, but with regular use I've found that it is drying, and also difficult to get off my face). I dilute the vinegar with water, but it's still pretty potent if you're in a small space like a shower. I just deal with it, as the smell rinses out when I rinse my hair. I don't come out of the shower smelling like vinegar or anything, haha. I don't wash my windows with it, though. I use Witch Hazel for that, because yeah...I'm not keen on my house smelling like vinegar. But for doing the dishes, it's not bad at all. I don't really notice the smell, probably due to the baking soda and sink full of water. |
Stawr | ah, sounds like its worth a try then! I have some Heinz brand cider vinegar under the sink. Oh yeah my old dance studio use to wash the windows with vinegar. I was very strong. |
Stawr | I'm thinking about making some kind of dish soap soon. Because my hands are sensitive to regular dish soap, it make my skin break out. Washing hands with hand soap immediately helps sometimes though. Sometimes the kitchen breaks out in these tiny beetle pests. It's so gross to see especially when making food. Or just seeing it near food. I am starting to see how great EOs work for repelling bugs! So I'll add some EOs to mine. I currently use a natural dish soap, that I am almost out of. So I might refill that bottle and fill it with vinegar(pretty sure bugs don't like that smell either.) and such. |
Stawr | The dish soap I use is called Citradish. They use essential oil and it has they cruelty free symbol on it. |
Ami Anne | Check out Miracle 2 soap on Amazon. You can use it for everything-laundry,dishes, even teeth and hair but it can be a bit drying for hair but it is that harmless. ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? tuxedo meow | castile soap is good for cleaning humans and household stuff. I use vinegar and baking soda to clean my oven and just baking soda for stainless steel. |

Drying would be good for me! My hair gets crazy oily naturally sometimes. |
